Osteopathy is now recognised as an effective treatment for a wide range of painful disorders. It helps restore the function of the musculoskeletal system such as in joints, muscles and ligaments and so helps to relieve pain. This is achieved through touch, massage, manipulation and stretching techniques.
Cranial osteopathy works along identical principles to those used in more structural osteopathic treatments. The osteopath uses a highly trained and refined sense of touch which gently allows local areas of distress and tension to soften. This type of treatment is suitable for everyone from newborn babies to the very elderly due to it's gentle approach.
The treatments are often considered relaxing although sometimes stretching of a muscle or joint may cause momentary discomfort. After treatment patients sometimes report feeling tired and occasionally achey (as the body readjusts) for a day or two so it is best to rest for the few hours following treatment.
